Montessori Pedagogy and Bilingualism

Before the age of 6, the child has an essential capacity that Maria Montessori calls "the absorbent spirit of the child". By allowing children to immerse themselves in the English language from the age of 2.5, they learn a foreign language effortlessly.

Each Montessori material has a specific function and educational objective; it allows the child to develop their concentration, their coordination and prepares them for more complex activities and more abstract concepts. It is “self-correcting”: the child can know if they have succeeded or not, and start again until they have completely mastered the activity.

Different workspaces offering specific equipment are set up in the classroom:

  • The practical life material

  • The sensory material

  • Maths equipment

  • Language, writing and reading materials

  • Science equipment (geography and botany in particular)

  • Arts and music

  • Library

Active pedagogy: experimenting

Active engagement, a pillar of learning, sparks curiosity and autonomy (Dehaene 2018) and increases the child's level of motivation. Active pedagogy makes it possible in particular to:

- develop the ability to innovate, collaborate and solve problems

- support the ability to learn independently

- seek real commitment

- promote sustainable learning

- increase the pleasure of learning

Active pedagogy will be deployed in many ways: vegetable gardening, culinary activities, art, experiments...

Positive discipline

- A pragmatic educational approach that combines firmness and kindness based on encouragement and cooperation to help children in their learning

- A solid theory based on the work of Alfred Adler and broken down into very concrete tools for parents and teachers

- A relationship with the child based on encouragement as a learning aid

Robotics section

Because there is no specific age to be interested in science and technology, the school joins the Research and Training College of the Aquitaine Robotics Cluster (www.aquitaine-robotics.com) with two ambitions:

- Make technology a practical learning lever for the young

- Involve the robotics section of the school in the discovery league of the junior robocup which will take place in Bordeaux in 2023!

The school will integrate the European project Eu-RATE (European-Robotic Access to Everybody, coordinated by the Ligue de l'enseignement de Nouvelle Aquitaine and financed by the Erasmus+ program).
